Without anti virus software, your computer is vulnerable to attack whenever you are connected to the internet. From file corruption to identity theft, your data is at risk…unless you have good security software to protect it. But how do you know which program will work for you? Here are the  top rated sites for Windows, based on reviews from reputable websites and Consumer Reports.

SPYWARE CEASE

They are a respected player in the antivirus/spyware removal field and offer the technology-oriented protection against the latest spyware threats like spyware, malware, keyloggers, Trojans, adware, malicious cookies tracking, browser hijackers, nasty worms, phishing attacks and other spyware attacks which can seriously interfere with your computer.

It has been reported to completely eliminate unwanted pop-ups, minimize identity theft and speed up the performance of your PC.  Spyware Cease also enables a “real-time” guard in the background, which warns you to take action if ever your computer is under attack.

Vipre Antivirus + Spyware
Anti virus software reviews from experts and users all agreed that Sunbelt Software’s Vipre offers fast, light security tools and effective, secure detection and removal of infection and spyware. It has a simple, clean user interface, speedy and accurate scanning engines, and best of all it won’t clog your system. It also comes with a host of extras like a secure file eraser, an advanced history cleaner and a tool called PC Explorer that shows you what services and processes are running on your PC that are malicious or suspect. The only thing missing is a firewall, so you will need to have your own.

Norton AntiVirus 2010
Symantec has always had a good reputation for spot-on detection and removal of viruses and malware, but often that protection came with a huge footprint on your PC. With this latest version, Symantec has finally balanced protection and performance. A new behavioral detection system responds faster to mutating threats and keeps an eye out for viruses that may be hibernating on your system. Installation and scans are quite fast, and overall this basic anti virus software will not overload your CPU…this is something that has been an issue with Norton in the past and was certainly in need of improvement

Trend Micro Internet Security 2009
Anti virus software reviews rate this basic, bare bones Internet Security suite from Trend Micro as  good for overall performance and price. It is fast and light, and includes virus, spam, spyware and phishing protection as well as a two-way firewall and built-in parental controls. The home network feature enables you to use the software on up to two additional PC’s. Trend Micro also has a pro version that includes full home networking and mobile protection.

Panda Internet Security 2009
Panda offers virus, spam and identity protection, safe surfing control, and customizable parental controls with preset office, teenager and kid filters. The personal firewall allows you to keep an eye on specific services as they access the internet. Anti virus software reviews score Panda highly at detection and removal of malware and spyware, and performs quickly. The only issue that has been found is the technical support, with definite improvements needed in their online documentation and knowledgebase.

Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Premium
AntiVir scores well overall in anti virus software reviews, and has been a consistent performer in various independent anti virus software tests. This simple program has a very small footprint on your CPU, and it is very user friendly. In addition to virus protection, it also includes some anti-phishing and spyware protection. It is fast and light…the only issue, at least for North American users, is that there is no support for the software outside of Europe.

When we think of computers we can only surmise that they have been here for a really long time. It only seems though. But in reality they were developed over the last century.

The first computers were massive and occupied the whole room with their gigantic sizes. They were pretty expensive too. The companies which had them installed had to spend a lot in air-conditioning to keep the giant machines cool and have false floors to hide the coils of cable they used.

Early computers had electron tubes which were also known as valves. These were made of glass which became too hot when in use. These needed tremendous amount of power.

During the 1950s things progressed and transistors were developed. They replaced the expensive valves as they were very cheap. Their small size led to the computers being concise too.

In the 1960s chip was developed to replace the transistors. These are tiny electrical circuits built on a bar of silicon. They were further modified to form the microprocessor chips which were equivalent to thousands of transistors.

Interestingly the development of the computers is linked with the US Soviet race into the outer space. But today the basic home personal computers are a lot more powerful than those used by the first of the astronauts. They are even more powerful than the enormous machines installed in corporations less than 40 yrs ago.

Ever since then there has been a competition to introduce the fastest and then smallest in this sector. A tablet computer by the name of iPad by Apple has been introduced in the market. It is a platform where e-books, periodicals, games, multimedia, music, movies, and all the web applications converge together to give a complete feel to the user. It weights only 700 grams.

The iPad uses multi-touch finger sensitive technology without a pressure-triggered stylus. The iPad is mobile so it uses the 3G mobile data connection to browse the internet. In the first three months of its launch it was able to sell 3million devices worldwide
